It’s totally common to go blond for the summer, even I brought back my blond balayage and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Naturally, your hair gets lighter in the summer due to constant sun exposure, but it’s still tough to fight back those brassy tones that reappear every now and then. A trip back to the salon is out of your way and probably too expensive, but the purple toning shampoo you’re using at the moment just isn’t cutting it. Ditch the one you have, and try out one of these that you can find at a nearby salon or Ulta!
Redken Color Extend Blondage Purple Shampoo & Conditioner
I’m starting you out with my personal favorites at the moment, because these products are literally amazing. The duo came out not too long ago, and as soon as they hit the shelf, they were in my shower. Most purple shampoos are created to just deposit purple into the hair to eliminate unwanted brassiness leaving the hair dry and brittle. However, the Redken Blondage repairs while it deposits! Hence the term blondage–bonding the hair back together and giving you the beautiful blond that you desire!
Surface Pure Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner
I have to admit; I have yet to try this duo, but I’ve heard amazing things and seen amazing results. Surface products are all derived from natural, organic sources, which is perfect for those of you who prefer safe ingredients. The Pure Blonde duo are made with Maqui Berry and Moringa Oil to create the essential base for counteracting brassiness, while nourishing the hair, delivering a glistening shine, and protecting the hair from free radicals. Not to mention, it smells delicious. The Pure Blonde toning spray is optional, but certainly gets the job done when you need to eliminate brass on-the-go.
L’Oreal Serie Expert Magnesium Silver Shampoo
L’Oreal recently released their own version of the purple shampoo, but they’re calling it Silver Shampoo. This goes out to the girls who have extremely blond, silver, or white hair, and just can’t seem to find something powerful enough to eliminate even the slightest yellow tones. Well, here’s your answer. Depending on how long you leave the product in, you can achieve a warm honey blond or a cool silver. The shampoo also nourishes and protects the hair fiber, which won’t leave your hair dry after a wash. You can use this once a week, or as much as you’d like! Warning: the purple pigmentation is strong, so do a test run before leaving it on for minutes at a time!
Matrix Brass Off Shampoo & Conditioner
Matrix’s Brass Off is a current best-seller and from experience, I know why. It does a great job of eliminating brass without leaving it on the hair for too long! In fact, before I knew much about hair, I thought I was supposed to wash with this daily and I practically turned purple in my second wash. Oops, silly me! As pictured above, the duo has a Color Obsessed mask that can be used instead of the shampoo and conditioner. You can purchase one or the other; it’s all based on preference. However, the mask also works well for people who have dyed their hair red, and can’t seem to get the stubborn color out.
